July update

The reunion planning committee met Sunday afternoon, July 15 to work on plans and preparations for our 40th reunion. Classmate George McClintock joined us, and we all enjoyed more laughter, fun and friendship -- planning this event is as much fun as the actual celebration in October is going to be!

Updated plans as of July 15:

Friday, October 12, 2007:

* 6:00PM -- Tour of Southeast Guilford High School, meet in the school cafeteria; light snacks and drinks provided

* 7:30PM -- attend home football game -- tickets are $5 each; special group seating.

If you were an athlete, band member or cheerleader, please wear your uniform or letter jacket (if you can still fit in it). EVERYONE is encouraged to wear the "orange and "black" school colors.

Saturday, October 13, 2007:

* 8:30AM -- Buffet breakfast at the K&W Cafeteria at 4310 Big Tree Way (off West Wendover Avenue); individual payment for your food

* 11:00AM -- Golf Outing at Stoney Creek course, 911 Golf House Road, Whitsett, NC (exit 135 on I-85/40); $34 -- must register by September 30th by calling Joe Parrish at 919-280-5188; pay when you arrive to play

* 7:00PM-- Registration and mingle/renew old friendships; cash bar;
Dinner at 7:30PM-until at the Stoney Creek Golf Club, 911 Golf House Road, Whitsett, NC (exit 135 on I-85/40); $40 per person; DJ with oldies music, door prizes, and special entertainment

The official invitations will be mailed out in early August -- watch for them!

Please note that we had to raise the cost to $40 per person to cover the costs of this event. Committee members already have generously covered some of the expenses (and probably will continue to do so) out of our own pockets with donations, but those pockets are only so deep!

Anyone who has a favorite "must hear" song request for the DJ, please let us know and we'll add it to the playlist.

Hello from a classmate

Cathy Cheek (Hawkins) sent out "Save the date" emails yesterday and is following up with "snail mail" postcards to those for whom we don't have email addresses. That effort already generated the following response from Peggie Smith (Matthews):

Hello fellow classmates.

First, I would like to commend the "reunion committee" for your time and effort pulling all of this together. I certainly plan to attend. This will be my first reunion in 40 years. I am looking forward to reconnecting with all of you. God bless you, and I'm looking forward with great expectation on seeing you in October. I tried to insert my picture, but it would not allow me to copy and paste in this comment page. Please feel free to go to my website at http://www.cotpinc.org/ to find out more about what I've been doing all these years

Fondly, Peggie A.(Smith) Matthews

June update

The planning committee for the 40th reunion met this afternoon at the home of Carolyn Clapp (Whitley), and if our afternoon together is any indication, the reunion is going to be FUN!!! (Some people never change!)

Classmates traveled in from Florence, SC and Cary, Clemmons, and Raleigh to join those of us who are still "local" to make some final decisions on "what and where." I think alumni will be pleased with the weekend celebration we are pulling together. (Details at the end of this post.)

(Can anyone find any matches between the "then" and "now" photos?)

Of course, we had to take care of important business first -- a couple of folks pulled out their 1967 annual (The Talon) to share and reminisce. I heard more than one person say "Did I really write THAT in your annual? Oh, my!" I guess we're much older and wiser now -- or at least older!

Now for the important information about the reunion, here are the

Updated plans:

Friday, October 12, 2007:

Planning for a reunion!

Thanks to the jump-starting efforts of Susan Holt (Brooks), several interested classmates from the Southeast Guilford High School class of 1967 have begun meeting and brainstorming ideas for our 40th year reunion. In addition to Susan, the following persons have been participating and contributing to the planning effort in one way or the other:

Charles Causey (and his wife Pam)
Carolyn Clapp (Whitley)
Cathy Cheek (Hawkins)
Jane Coltrane (Jones)
Mike Crabtree
Sandy Garrett (Carmany)
Susan Holt (Brooks)
Gerald Letterman
Joe Parrish
Doug Shoffner
Lindley Smith

VERY PRELIMINARY plans call for a tour of the school late Friday afternoon before attending the home football game on Friday night, October 12, 2007; a group breakfast at a local restaurant on Saturday morning, October 13; a golf outing at Stoney Creek at 11:00AM that morning; ; and a dinner-dance-fun celebration with a DJ on Saturday evening. As locations, times, and details are confirmed, we'll be in touch!

For other classmates who have ideas to contribute or want to be involved in the planning, please just leave a comment here and someone will be in touch with you -- the more, the merrier!
